Trauma Counseling

Dr. Hunsley is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and is able to offer counseling services to current residents of Texas and Pennsylvania. She has over 10 years of working in the field and has worked in a variety of settings with children, teens, adults, and families. She has worked with clients with a wide range of challenges including depression, anxiety, loneliness, life transitions, self-esteem, trauma, relational issues, and family conflict.

Most of her work has focused specifically on trauma, helping clients both understand and heal from the effects of trauma in their own lives. She has an MA in social work, MS in experimental psychology, and PhD in experimental psychology. Almost all of her education has focused specifically on early-life trauma, family conflict, adoption, and foster care.

Dr. Hunsley’s area of strength when working with clients is helping them understand the “why” behind their behavior – why they think, feel, and act the way they do. She believes that clients must first understand why they do what they do before they can be successful in experiencing true change in our lives.

Her belief is that her role is to meet clients wherever they are in their journey to living a better, healthier life. Ultimately, her goal is to empower clients with the knowledge and skills so that they can live their best life. One of her favorite things is to help clients gain a clearer understanding of their worth, capabilities, and strengths as they learn how to live their most meaningful life.

Jana is very down-to-earth and create a safe space for you to share whatever challenges you are facing. She tends to use a mix of psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques when working with clients as she believe that we must first understand why we are the way we are before we can effectively use new strategies and ways of thinking to improve our lives. Often, gaining self-awareness is the most important part of therapy. But, her work is very individualized to meet your specific needs.

It can be a bit daunting to start therapy and try to find the right fit in a therapist. We are impressed that you’re here and are happy to come alongside you to offer the support you’re hoping for.
